The Vikings needed a quarter back and they got one. They chose to pass on the more pro ready Drew Allar, and the second quarterback taken and fifth overall pick was Jalen Milroe. He has a good arm and game changing speed.
At Alabama, Milroe showed great ability to manipulate the pocket and buy time for himself, allowing routes to better develop. Nick Saban said “Jalen is the most dynamic quarterback I have ever coached, his ability to extend plays, and make plays with his feet provided us the ability to open the offense up like we’ve never been able to before. He has great leadership skills, and will do anything it takes to win. We will miss him, and he will make the Vikings very happy.”
Milroe already has a pro bowl receiver in Justin Jefferson, but the Vikings weren’t satisfied with the weapons they currently had. In the second round they drafted Tetairoa McMillian, a 6’5 target receiver from Arizona. With maybe the best catch radius in his class he provides Milroe the luxury of not having to be perfectly accurate with his passes. The Vikings offense relies on the abilities of Milroe this season, a big ask for the 21 year old rookie. Will he answer the bell, or will Drew Allar prove to be the better pick?
