Entering the season, many people had low expectations for the Vikings. Although two of the three other teams in the division had lost their head coach, the Vikings were still not seen as a threat this season. But the Vikings have exceeded all expectations. Yes, we have talked about Jalen Milroe. Yes, we know about Tetairoa McMillian. But in this article, I want to talk about their Head Coach specifically.
Unfortunately for him, he is a Falcons fan. His favorite Quarterback all-time is Matt Ryan. When talking to him, he told me how much that 28-3 Super Bowl choke loss hurt him. But if we look at that 2016 team, that Falcons team and this Vikings team have some things in common. That Falcons team was booming on offense, ranking #1. Well, this Vikings team is ranked #1 themselves. And if you remember, what was a clear weakness of that Falcons team? Defense. And that is the same issue with the Vikings. So, if you ask me, I think the odds say that the Vikings will be in the Super Bowl this year.
The Head Coach of the Vikings has a history of playing football himself, which may be why he can help the players reach their potential. Look at Jalen Milroe. Yes, he was drafted 5th overall, but no one saw him being this good this fast. And I give a lot of credit to the Head Coach for that. Look at Tetairoa McMillian, or “McMillions”. The Vikings’ offensive scheme has him already looking like one of the best Wide Receivers in the league. Every week, this team gets better. The Vikings took a chance on this Head Coach, and they are getting everything and more.
The Vikings have slowed down a bit from their 4-0 start, losing 4 of their last 7 games. This week, they got embarrassed against the Commanders. Justin Jefferson had some words on the Commanders’ secondary before the game, and the Commanders responded. After that loss, many may see the Vikings as pretenders. This is a “what have you done for me lately” type of league, but don’t be fooled. The Vikings are championship contenders. Yes, they have slowed down a bit, but that’s what happens during a long NFL season. Ups and downs. And the Vikings have a Head Coach who I believe will do all he can to help the Vikings get back on track. The Vikings are here. And they will be a problem for years to come.
