There have been teams that have really shocked the league—Raiders, Saints, Commanders—but there is a team that is shocking the league in all the wrong ways: the Detroit Lions.
Just a few months ago, the Detroit Lions were in the NFC Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, the Lions’ defense did a tremendous job of slowing down the Cowboys’ explosive offense. However, it was the poor quarterback play of returning Hendon Hooker and Jameis Winston that eventually led to a loss. Everyone watching that game came to the same conclusion: The Detroit Lions were a quarterback away from the Super Bowl.
So when the Lions made a massive move in trading for C.J. Stroud, a trade that saw them keep major talent, many would have assumed that the Lions would jump out to a historic start. Their defense is one of the best, and adding C.J. Stroud would take this offense to new heights. However, C.J. Stroud and the Lions have not met expectations just yet. C.J. Stroud looks like Jameis Winston. He has thrown ten interceptions with eight touchdowns as the Lions sit at 1-3. And with the defense currently giving up 35 points a game, is it time to panic?
The simple answer is no. The Detroit Lions will be just fine. Here’s the deal: They are 1-3 and only one game behind the 2-3 Bears for first place in the NFC North. In a division that looks pretty weak, the Lions will surely make the playoffs. And as we know, everyone is 0-0 once the playoffs start. Also, those three losses come against top teams in the NFC. Those losses came from the NFC East. The 2-2 Cowboys, 3-1 Commanders, and 5-0 Giants. In this league, where we have never seen as much talent as now, you will lose some tough games. I still see the Lions as one of the best teams in the league. My prediction before the season was that they would make it to the NFC Championship game once again and possibly win. If C.J. Stroud can be the player we know he can be, I still believe they will. Go Lions!
