The Seattle Seahawks took the league by storm. They ended the season 16-1 as the best overall team in the league. Offensively and defensively, they seem to have very few weaknesses. They earned a first-round bye and will now host the Philadelphia Eagles at home in the Divisional Round. Last week, during the bye, I got to talk to Coach Reggie about the tremendous season and the future of Seattle Seahawks Football.
Interviewer: First off, it is an honor to talk to the man behind this great Seahawks team. Thanks for giving me your time. First off, how satisfied are you with how your team played this season?
Coach: I’m very satisfied and excited. From the start of training camp, there was just something different about the energy from the guys. I could tell by the way they busted their asses every play. The way they picked each other up. I won’t say I thought we would go 16-1, but I knew we had something special. That being said, the job is not done yet. We still have that same belief that we can win the whole thing.
Interviewer: Absolutely. I don’t think anyone had you being this great so fast and it is truly awesome to see. To go 16-1, you have to have contributions from everyone. But who on this team do you really want to shout out?
Coach: Oh that’s tough. So many guys have done an amazing job. All 53. Even the guys who haven’t touched the field. The practice squad as well. But if I had to shout someone out, it would be Jerome Baker. What he did for us on the defensive side was elite. Think he had about 6 interceptions and 4 sacks. It seemed like when we needed a big play, he was there making it happen. Also, he is a vocal leader. Another person would be Tariq Woolen. I’m not sure why QBs continue to throw at him.
Interviewer: Speaking of 16-1, you did suffer a tough loss to the Rams in week 18. How much did you want that win to go a perfect 17-0? And do you feel that loss could be a good thing? Sort of a little necessary humbling before the playoffs.
Coach: Well, you always want to win. 17-0 sounds nice, but we know the ultimate goal is winning the Super Bowl. We started that game off very slow and it cost us in the end. I’m not too worried about losing that game. We watched the film and saw the mistakes we made. Cleaned it up in practice and look forward to our first playoff game in front of the best fans in the league.
Interviewer: You guys have not received a lot of respect across the league. Why do you think that is and have you guys used that as bulletin material?
Coach: No comment. Playoff time.
Interviewer: What would a Super Bowl mean for this team? The last time this team was in the Super Bowl it was the “Ball at the 1” game.
Coach: It would be huge. Not only for the team. Not only for the organization. But for the city. Like I said, these are the best fans in the world. I truly believe that. Would be nothing sweeter than giving them something that no one will ever be able to take away from them. But obviously, it will be great for the team. Winning is always great, but winning with the type of guys we have on this team would be a dream come true. These guys deserve it.
Interviewer: What is your message to the league ahead of your first game?
Coach: The Storm is coming!
There you have it. I’m excited to see what the Seahawks will do. A favorite to make the Super Bowl and the journey continues. If Coach Reggie is right, there will be a storm tonight at 8 PM EST against the Eagles.
