Daaaaa Bearsssss. The Bears’ rebuilding process may be complete. The Bears GM and Head Coach clearly defined what they wanted for this team. A young team that would eventually take the league by storm. While many people felt that the Bears would never get back to the top, the Bears never gave up on their plan. We have seen this team face hardship after hardship. The quarterback play was horrible. Defense was a huge problem as well. But even in one of the toughest divisions, there were no rumors of the Bears Head Coach being on the hot seat. Why? Because there always was the belief they would get here. Where? Well, the Bears now sit at 4-2 after an upset win over the Packers. Wow.
If you look at this Bears roster, you will see one of the best-constructed teams in the league. Shedeur Sanders. Oscar Delp. Ceedee Lamb. Xavier Worthy. Dylan Edwards. Yes, the Bears selected Dylan Edwards late in the first round. He has taken this offense to another level. The Bears were a pass-heavy team in past seasons, but Edwards has allowed them to take a more balanced approach. With one of the best offensive lines in the league, this offense has no weaknesses.
But the offense is not even the best part about this team. They just made the #1 ranked offense (Packers) look average. And it’s easy to know why. Kwity Paye, Jordan Hall, Vita Vea, and Jack Sawyer do a great job at stopping the run and generating pressure against the quarterback. The Bears also have a great training staff that has developed some of the best secondaries in the league. They would then ship those guys out for great value back, usually draft picks. But the Bears still do have one of the best secondaries in the league even with those moves. Deion Sanders Jr. has put himself in the category as one of the best safeties in the league. Decorian Patterson is a perfect example of the Bears having great secondary development. The Bears would put the cherry on top by getting Witherspoon in a trade with the Dolphins in the offseason.
So how far can this team go? Is it really likely that the Bears will make the playoffs in a tough NFC conference? I think so. In my opinion, it will depend on one man. That being the #1 pick in the 2025 draft, Shedeur Sanders. In his second year as a pro, he needs to take care of the football. If he can do that, the Bears’ offense will be very hard to stop. But last season we saw him have a lot of “someone is out there” type of games. That type of play style is no longer acceptable if the Bears plan on continuing their success. But let’s say they do make the playoffs, how far can they go realistically? As I like to say, this is an Any Given Sunday type of league. The sky is the limit. Go Bears!
