The Chargers currently sit at 1-5. What was supposed to be a promising season has quickly turned sour. In a tough AFC, the Chargers will likely be missing the playoffs again this season. Maybe we had too high of expectations for this team. Let’s be real, this team was not in the best position when Coach Ee3zus arrived. But don’t be deceived, depending on how the Chargers play this, the future is still bright.

Let’s just say that the Chargers “tank” this season. I say that because it is pretty safe to say they won’t make the playoffs. This would mean that they would have a top pick in the upcoming draft. This would be huge for this franchise, as rumors are spreading that this draft class will be a banger.

The Chargers already have some great young players. These players include Desmond Ricks, Caelen Carson, Rashod Overeem, and Mario Williams. Desmond Ricks would shockingly fall all the way down to pick 14 in the draft. And the Chargers did not hesitate to take one of, if not, the best cornerback in the draft. Caelan Carson has earned his respect around the league as he is getting targeted less and less. If Ricks can become the player we expect him to be, we may have one of the best cornerback duos in the league.

And when constructing a roster, it is important to have someone who can generate pressure. The Chargers have two studs in Rashod Overeem and Cyrus Moss. It will be interesting to see how they both grow throughout the rest of this season.

Mario Williams is a young quick receiver who the Chargers feel will be an important piece in this rebuild. But the young piece that I am most impressed with has to be Braelon Allen. The third-year running back is having a breakout year. There is too much to like about the young man. He is quick. He is shifty. He can break tackles. He started the season strong with two straight games of over 100 yards. Since then he has slowed down a bit. If he can remain consistent, he will easily be one of the best runningbacks in the league in the next couple of years.

The Chargers are trying to trade some veterans like McCaffrey, Highsmith, and Bosa. If the Chargers can get good value for them, especially picks, that will be a huge win. Derwin James Jr. is a free agent after this season so I wonder if the Chargers will try to see what they can get for him, maybe ship him off to a contending team, which could give an opportunity to 22-year-old safety Xavier Nwankpa.

I believe that the Chargers Head Coach and GM need to meet to discuss what they really want to accomplish this season. Because even if they were to win 7 of their next 10 games, they would have a record of 8-9. I say they prioritize developing their young guys while getting value with their veteran guys. Of course the NFL committee is not a fan of tanking, but I believe it is the way to go. Either way, I truly believe that the Chargers made an outstanding move in hiring Coach Ee3zus and it is only a matter of time for the Chargers to be back in contention.
