The Commanders completely shocked the league with their performance this week against the Vikings. From the start of the game, the Commanders showed that they have different levels they can go to. Sam Howell and the Commanders’ offense did whatever they wanted all game. But the defense was the story of this game, holding the #1 offense to only 14 points. Jalen Milroe, who has been the NFC OROY so far, was forced into throwing two interceptions. Some did pick the Commanders to win, but no one expected them to blow the Vikings out 35-14.

And that has been the narrative around the Commanders all season long. Can they win the big games or will they choke again? This narrative is floating around because of the embarrassing performances they have had to end the season in recent years. Look at Season 3 in this OGCFM era for example. The Commanders fought their way back to win the division and clinch a playoff spot. However, they put up an embarrassing performance against the Lions in the Wildcard Round, losing 28-10. In that game, Sam Howell threw three interceptions. Or look at Season 4 in this OGCFM era as another example. The Commanders were on a roll in the regular season, even upsetting the eventual NFC Champions in the Panthers. However, after that big win, the Commanders would lose six straight games to end the year, leading to the Giants barely winning the division. All the Commanders had to do was win one game.

So when it comes to the success of the Commanders, people hesitate to give them their props, not believing that they will perform well when it matters. The Head Coach of the Commanders understands why his team is not getting respect and vows that his team will not come up short this season in the playoffs. And after a win over the Vikings, I actually believe the Commanders will shock the league. If Sam Howell can take care of the ball (he was throwing straight dots), I have this team making it all the way to the NFC Championship game. Obviously, that prediction can change week by week, but I am very impressed with the Commanders this season.
