Patriots Struggles Continue into Week 2

The New England Patriots have fallen to 0-2 after they were routed 35-13 by the division rival Buffalo Bills. Rookie QB Caleb Williams showed flashes of his potential in this one, but ultimately it was his careless decision making that lead to the blowout. Williams threw for 422 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT. Offensive coordinator Chris Robert’s scheme allowed Williams to pass often, which seemed to free up the offense until they got to red zone. The Patriots scored just 6 points in 4 trips to the red zone. Worse yet, their rushing attack and pass rush were miserably ineffective, both focus points of improvement in the off-season. Rookie Blake Corum ran for only 2.7 yards per carry, and the defense couldn’t manage a single sack. There was a lone bright spot in this one as Tyquan Thornton looks like a budding superstar. He pulled in 6 catches for an incredible 257 yards, highlighted by a 98-yard touchdown grab late in the 3rd quarter. There are some blocks for the Patriots to build on, but they are winless headed to a tough matchup at the Jets next week.
