The Colts made it clear from the start: they were moving on from Anthony Richardson after the season. The Colts offense did not consist of constantly passing the ball, so many people felt that the Colts were hindering Richardson. Anthony Richardson did a great job taking care of the ball, but he never really got the chance to run the offense. Fans on X were starting to start a hashtag of #freeA.R., and the media started to pick up on possible destinations for Richardson. Of those teams, the Falcons were on the top of the list.
The Falcons have struggled when it comes to the Q.B. position. Desmond Ridder was horrible. Trey Lance was better but still horrible. So when a guy like Anthony Richardson was available, they did not hesitate to pick up the phone. They now have Anthony Richardson and will have the pressure of meeting expectations. It is no longer acceptable for them to miss the playoffs. No longer acceptable for them to be at the bottom of the league. They now have a franchise quarterback who has proven that when given the chance, he can lead a team.
Now you may ask yourselves, when has he ever proven he can lead? Wasn’t he getting carried by Jonathan Taylor and the Colts’ defense? Now if you were to ask me that before the Season 5 playoffs, I would have agreed. But during the playoffs, when given the chance, Richardson was definitely balling. If it were not for him, I don’t think the Colts make it out of the Wildcard Round. Remember, teams were ready for Jonathan Taylor, spending days watching film to try to stop him. And when it mattered most, Richardson stepped up. And I believe he will do the same thing in Atlanta with the Falcons.
