Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. That is kind of where I stand with the New York Jets. After another strong regular season, the Jets once again fell to the Titans in the Divisional Round. Let’s be clear: the Jets have owned their division. But it is starting to come to the point of “so what?”.
Michael Penix Jr. did a great job leading this team last season as a starter. He did not play much with Rodgers starting in Season 4, but it was clear he had learned some valuable tips from him. And Loveland may be the best tight end in the league. Sauce and Jaylon may be the best cornerback duo in the league. So, there are so many positives with this team. But we all know that all 32 teams are battling for one thing. And it’s hard for me to put the Jets as true contenders when they continue to fall very quickly in the playoffs. In season 3, they would get blown out against the Titans in the Divisional Round. In season 4, they would get blown out against the Colts in the Wildcard Round. And last season, they would get blown out against the Titans in the Divisional Round again. Yes, those are good teams but that is the point. When the playoff comes, you are going up against the best. And the Jets must prove that they can beat the best.
But I got to talk with the Jets Head Coach. And he understands where all the hate is coming from. He understands that his team has fallen short time and time again, and he believes that this is the season. He told me that they have revenge on their mind this season. And what better way to start that revenge tour than going up against a team that has been standing in their way every season? The Tennessee Titans.
