Coach Kirby Smart was just a defensive coordinator under the wing of Nick Saban when the legion of boom took the league by storm and won a super bowl. But we have seen coach Smart make leaps and bounds as a coach since that started, including winning back to back national championships at the University of Georgia. Now he takes on a new task in replacing the greatest Seahawks coach of all time in Pete Carroll. Coach Smart has hit the ground running in the NFL draft taking almost exclusively defensive players while the draft was very deep with them. He drafted two brand new edge players and got himself a brand new middle linebacker that he has a great relationship with having coached him at the University of Georgia, Smael Mondon Jr. Coach smart has stated that his goal is to recreate that legion of boom defense and rename it to the Legion of Doom. With an already loaded secondary and filling the holes in the defensive line and linebacker positions he is well on his way.
The Seahawks also selected Tyler Van Dyke, a quarterback out of Miami in the fourth round. Geno Smith is getting older and is on a less than favorable contract. While Van Dyke might not end up being the guy of the future taking a swing on him in the fourth round can not hurt you. He has a huge arm and is decently athletic, but accuracy problems and an awkward throwing motion led to him not being up high on many teams boards, but Coach Smart knows all about winning with a quarterback that no one wanted, winning both of his back to back National Championships with a walk on quarterback. While replacing Pete Carroll will be no easy task he is showing fans that he has a clear plan on how to make things work in Seattle.
