Old face new place. The Bears traded Justin Fields to the Broncos for the number one pick and a second rounder. In his first game with the Broncos he faced off against the Cowboys and their first round pick Bear Alexander. The Cowboys selected Alexander to fill the role of Micah Parsons, who they traded away last year.

Alexander was pretty quiet though. Fields on the other hand was not quiet, but sometimes it was not for the right reasons. While the offensive production was there, he struggled to protect the ball throwing four interceptions. There were flashes of talent though including, two bombs to rookie Kyion Grayes, several other huge plays to Ladd McConkey, and Fields also found Treyveon Henderson for a 50 yard plus touchdown, The Broncos were able to generate offense with their defense as well when Patrick Surtain took a Tony Pollard fumble to the house in the second quarter, and Avery returning an interception with less than three minutes left in the fourth to completely ice the game. Justin Fields was able to impress with 417 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Fields threw 4 interceptions the Broncos coach said, “We feel like this is something Justin can clean up, we need to get into the film room so Justin can see where these mistakes were made, but we have all the confidence in the world in Justin. We got our guy!”

The Cowboys had a more balanced offense than the Bears air raid. They relied on their two star running backs, Tony Pollard and Austin Ekeler. it is unclear whether the running game was expected to be leaned on in the game plan, or if the way the game was panning out forced the Cowboys into that. The Cowboys were able to find the end zone four times on the ground along with 127 yards. The Cowboys passing game left a lot to be desired. The yards were there with 351 of them, but the five interceptions by Drake Maye is a big reason they could not leave Denver with a W. Even with Justin Fields four interceptions the Cowboys lost the turnover battle today. It is hard to win games coughing up the ball six times and surely taking care of the ball will be a focus for the Cowboys going forward. Bear Alexander was a disappointment today with only two assisted tackles to his name. While it’s a long season Cowboys fans expectations were a lot higher for him as he has maybe unfairly taken on the same expectations that were there for Micah Parsons.
