Despite the great pitching performances from both sides a rough 3rd inning proved to be the ballgame for the Cubs. Giving up 5 of the 7 total hits in that one inning allowing 4 to score. Kyle Hendricks went 6 innings giving up 4 before Julian Merryweather came in and threw 3 perfect innings striking out 3. Nick Martinez couldn’t make it out of the 5th before Emilio Pagan(1-0) came in to shut the door making sure no rally was going to take place. From there he went 3 more innings striking out 2 before they handed the ball over to the closer Alexis Diaz to get his 2nd save of the season, striking out 2. At the plate Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain both went 2-4 with a double with McLain driving in a RBI. Cubs Christopher Morel kept his hot streak up going 2-3 with a double and is hitting .667 2 homeruns in 15 total at bats for the season. Both teams are 3-1 after the game and it will be interesting to see how the season goes for both sides.
