The week 3 game of the week in the OGCFM Sim league will feature two teams that are 2-0. The Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills. This is a battle between two very balanced teams. The Seahawks are second in offensive scoring and ninth in defensive scoring putting them in the top ten of the two most important categories. The Bills are twentieth in offensive scoring, but they are second in defensive scoring.
Let’s take a look at the Buffalo Bills so far this season. You can’t talk about the Bills without starting with Josh Allen. In two games Allen has 538 passing yards, 7 touchdowns, and not a single interception. Turnovers have been the knock on Allen his whole career, and while it has only been two games Allen seems to have made a concerted effort to stop the turnover issue. Allen has still been mainly looking at his top weapon in Stefon Diggs who has 175 yards and 3 touchdowns already this year, but Allen has been looking at his other weapons too. Allen has completed passes to seven different players this year, and seems to be making an effort to get more people involved in the offense, this could be a big reason he has had less turnovers as the offense has become more balanced and less Diggs centric. But what you have all been waiting for is the defense. This defense allows 13 points a game which is almost unheard of in the NFL in 2024. They turn the other team over also with four interceptions for this defense already on the year. This team is built to make a deep run into the playoffs and if they can keep playing like they are now there is no reason that they shouldn’t.
Now to look at the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Kirby Smart made the bold decision to start rookie quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, bold because of the amount of money that the team is paying Geno Smith to now ride the pine, but it seems that he has made the right decision. Van Dyke has a rocket of an arm, and has showed that off in Kirby Smart’s pass heavy offense which is the second best offense in the NFL. Rookies don’t normally start the season this well, but rookies don’t always have DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Noah Fant, and Kenneth Walker III. These weapons make Van Dyke’s job very easy, as he is able to rely on them to make the plays, and his only job is to get the ball into their hands. The defense has shown us two completely different games this season. In week one they allowed Tua and the Miami Dolphins to put up 42 points, but then held the Vikings to 3, and the Vikings only got those 3 by breaking an unwritten rule kicking a field goal while being shutout with 0:03 on the clock. Coach Kirby Smart had this to say about the inconsistent defensive play, “We are going to be aggressive. We are going to look to turn the other team over and get sacks. If that means occasionally leaving a guy on an island and he gets beat so be it. I believe that this defense has the ability to win games by themselves with turning the other team over, and when you have that ability you aren’t going to sit back in zones and, not blitz, and play bend but don’t break defense.”
My Prediction: Seahawks 38- Bills 28
