Travis Hunter. Shedeur Sanders. They were on the same team in college. There they developed a relationship that will last forever. Watched each other work every day to be better. And watched each other get drafted. Travis Hunter to the Denver Broncos. Shedeur Sanders to the New York Giants. Last night they saw each other play…this time on opposing sidelines.
It was a great game for both players. Sanders put on a show throwing for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did make some rookie mistakes this game, throwing two interceptions, but a lot of great flashes were displayed. Many times throughout the game, I found myself saying “Help him”. Other than Malik Nabers, he had no help. Dropped pass after dropped pass. Defense giving up 3rd and longs. From Week 1 to Week 2, it was night and day. Sanders will be a problem in this league. It’s only a matter of time.
On the other end, the Heisman winner showed out himself. Even with the two seasons he played with Hunter, Sanders still decided to throw to Hunter’s side of the field. Hunter would pick it off for his first interception of his NFL career. Not only that, he would take it to the house for a pick-6. Imagine that. Your first interception is a pick-6 against your best friend. The 2-0 Broncos defense is looking scary.
Their offense is as well. We have seen many sophomore slumps for Quarterbacks, but Bo Nix isn’t one of them. He is playing like an MVP candidate. 693 yards, 11 touchdowns to only 1 interception. The Broncos have gone from the second-worst team in the league to being in playoff contender talks. The big difference: Coach Mari. A great coach can flip the switch just like that. The Broncos will have another big test next week against the Commanders.
